Our Story

We have loved visiting Devon and Dorset ever since our very first holiday together 30 years ago! Working in busy corporate jobs we were seeking an escape from the day to day hustle and bustle. Stepping on to the coast path, experiencing the breath-taking views and enjoying the feeling of wilderness made us feel wild and free and we kept coming back until we eventually chose to move to Devon.

We moved almost ten years ago from Guildford. We were aiming for a simpler, healthier, more sustainable life in a peaceful place. We have been busy over the past few years building our self-build eco-home.

I am an ecologist and Mark is a technical specialist for a local renewable heating company. We mainly work from home and so can usually be on hand to welcome you or help with any questions, but totally respect our guests need for privacy.

We like to make sure our guests are comfortable and have all the information they need to make the most of their stay. We usually aim to give you a warm welcome and try to answer all your questions so that you can enjoy your stay in peace and quiet.

We love nature and the environment and the house and cabin have been sustainably built. The garden is a haven for wildlife with plenty of birds, frequently passing roe deer and the odd badger. There are plenty of bats enjoying the lovely dark night skies and the views of the stars on a clear night are amazing. We have a very friendly spaniel, who loves to say hello, but if you are not keen on dogs then just let us know and we will keep him out of your way.

We love our peaceful haven in the Devon countryside and hope that you will too. We have our favourite spots and are happy to help with recommendations for places to visit, places to walk and enjoy nature and wildlife and the best places to eat and drink in the area.

We have walked all of the Jurassic coast path sections of the coast path and often return to our favourites so if you are a keen walker just ask for further information and we can help with guidance on coast path walks and lend maps. The logistics can sometimes be tricky and planning walks can be time-consuming, so we hope that we can make things as easy as possible for you by sharing our own experience and local tricks and tips to help you along the way.
